Is there an online map to those falls? What town are they close to?
Beautiful pics . Real nice place. I love those east coast hardwood forests. Thanks for posting

Virgin Falls SNA is near Sparta, TN.
You walk in and down to the falls, then UP and back out.
Thanks for the report LittleBryan. I've not hiked there in winter.
This is a reason for long distance hikers to consider the Cumberland Trail....if I'm not mistaken the CT goes through the Pocket Wilderness. I worked on the Big Dig in the Soddy Wilderness, and I've hiked in Cumberland Gap NHP but want to do more of this trail. Thanks for getting me interested in the Pocket!
Sorry for not posting more info on the location of VF, etc. I'd posted it other times in my blog and just got accustomed to leaving it out. It's definitely worth checking out in the Winter time if this year is any indication of what it's like.
Nice pictures of the Falls and of the crossing with the cables. I haven't seen the water flowing like that there before. Last time I was there the falls was barely flowing. By any chance did you take the trail down to the Caney Fork River? There is the Caney Fork River trail which is a nice trail to hike but hard to follow. I have only hiked half of it since my hiking buddy got sick and we had to bail

I will check it out. I need to get back down there and finish that trail or do it all this time. It seems the locals like to shoot the trail signs down.
There use to be a great website that had all of the trails with descriptions on it but it closed down. The Chamber of Commerce in Sparta had some of the maps but they are copies of copies of copies so they aren't a lot of help.
Have you run into any wild hogs down there yet? We had one working its way into the campsite one night. We ran it off before he got to close.
That might be a good place for a get together this spring or fall. Definitely have to watch the rain though. The Caney Fork River can rise quickly
