Are these actual temps? The weather channel must be way off.

I live on North Carolina's Outer Banks. Three different times over the years I've been caught in surprise coastal storms with 50 to 70 knot winds. Each one was an adventure.

Strongest winds I've been under canvas (luckily NOT in a hammock) was on the volcanic island of Heiymay, off the coast of Iceland. Our three man tent survived violent storm force 11 winds (63 - 72mph), it was the only one on the field to do so. Not that I (or the family) got much sleep, I was up and down all night adding ever more guy lines to each and every point. Glad it had fibreglass poles, not carbon; it kept getting flattened by gusts, but gamely just popped back up.
A wild ride, but we all stayed dry... and impressed the locals!

Agreed, Down here in Wrightsville Beach, NC its at least 15-20 in the summer. Beach and island camping can be 30-40. It's not uncommon to see 20 plus on the AT as well.
