I have been using an old pair of wire cutters also. Seems to work OK, although it is still not an easy cut. I suspect my cutters are on the dull side.

Howzabout those little disposable utility knives with the telescoping blades? The ones where you break off the dull blade, and start over.

I go with Shug's method - a sharp knife on a board. That's for ends that need to be tapered, i.e. unbraided a bit, with individual strands pulled out and cut off (again, knife + board). If you don't need to taper, you can use a hot knife or soldering iron. The stuff has a very low melting point.

That's exactly what I use. I've got one about the size of a thick pen and one that's more standard sized for bigger jobs. They work great and are both cheap and disposable.

Well... Im sure it wears on the scissors too.

If I had to guess, I think I have almost 300 slings on this pair of scissors, and they still cut.

BUT... It does seem like its getting tougher to get through. And its not an "easy" cut. I do have to make multiple attempts to get through it, but have since day 1. Almost like chewing. But it does leave a nice, clean cut.

I'm using a used razor blade now. After trying scissors, wire cutters and a utility knife, I've found I recover faster after using the razor blade

I used my stupidly sharp Opinel folding knife.
After a few cuts, it became merely stupid.
I kept a whetstone nearby.

All the talk of cutting, and it prompted me to get a new pair of scissors...



Cuts pretty well. These have the serrated, titanium coated (marketing, Im sure) blades. Keeping tension on the line while cutting and they zip right through it.
