    Gatlinburg fires

Just wanted to post in case anyone had a trip planned for the Gatlinburg area in the near future. There are currently several fires here causing evacuations and closures. There are several campsites I have been told that are closed so I wanted to pass along the info.

Closed Backcountry Campsites include 21, 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31, 32, Mt. Le Conte shelter, and Mt. Collins shelter.

Hopefully this rain (yes I said rain) we are getting tonight and tomorrow night will put an end to these fires. First ran over .10" since August. FINALLY!

Dry weather and carelessness or intentioinal in some cases I read something on whiteblaze I think but idk about Gatlinburg my parents were just there like a month ago or so. Its sad for sure but the conditions aren't helping anything either.

There has been a fire burning here for a while. I have heard several stories from that one spreading due to high winds to cigarettes or another form of arson. We were under a voluntary evacuation earlier today but now the entire city has been evacuated and parts of Pigeon Forge

The mountains were so dry last week it would only take one small ember to get things started. It made catholes easy to dig. The dirt was like powder.

The good news is they had .50" of rain this early this morning with a lot more to come tonight and Saturday. The bad news is there were homes and hotels burned down so this is not a small fire by no means.
Here's a few videos that are not for children due to the language that shows how bad it really is. I can't believe this wasn't reported on the news.
