Talking ViDEO: BWCA Snowshoe Trudge with McKendry & Finkelstein Brothers

It snowed so was time to go out and get into it. Shoulder season....sloppy snow for some of the trip as we got rain as well.
The snow was up to 14 inches deep back in the BWCA 30 miles North of Ely, MN.
Backpacked with two sets of brothers...the McKendrys and Finkelsteins. They invited me along. All of us do circus and that is a big part of our life.
3 nights of awesome, yes I said awesome, slumber in my Wilderness Logis's Snipe hammock and my new custom Burrow and Incubator from Hammock Gear. Oh so warm and snug.
We ate well...walked long on snowshoes and embraced the chill.

Thanks for the video Shug. Super sloppy! Those early/late winter trips are tough with the snowshoes...want them, need them, don't need them, sort of need them, don't wanna carry them. I sometimes leave it up to flipping a coin.

Check from Salomon is in the mail

I made the call to wear them and glad we did! Totally more snow back there then expected. Was a Winter wonderland for sure.

Various collection of MSR snowshoes. Solid and trustworthy. I brought an old pair of Atlas snowshoes for Sam to borrow. Repaired them a few times and the binding broke the minute Sam put them on. The MSRs are really good and I have been wearing them for years. Lots of traction, easy bindings. Less float then traditionals but tough.

I agree. I have an oldschool pair of MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes and they are bullet proof. Once you get the rhythm down you can basically jog in them.

I really enjoyed this trip report Shug thanks. That fog on the lake was something special.

Another excellent video. That does look beautiful but keeping warm in that environment would be a challenge for me. Which Solomon hikers do you use. I use the Salomon Men's X Ultra Mid 2 GTX as they feel like tennis shoes they are so comfortable.

I use those Ultras as well. Great boots! I believe these in the video are Salomon 4D GTX. Possibly 4D 2 GTX, but that 2 is just a slight aesthetic update as far as I know. Looks like a great boot with a higher ankle collar for "almost winter" conditions where an insulated boot would be too much. Careful by the fire - too much heat can overdry the leather, ruin the Goretex, and melt glued seams and rubber.
