Whatever else it may/may not have, the center zip is conspicuously missing.

The GI modular kit has side snaps and zippers on the bags and bivy. The GI Extreme bag has the center snaps and zipper.

Must be some different versions out there. That one with compression bag was 12 lbs!

The zipper is also on the right side of the MSS, you can orient it to the center though , there is enough room in the shoulder area for the hood to still be comfortable, this would affect the bivy which is only camo on the top side , but unless your a commando you should be fine.

Yeah, I saw that on the website. That's what prompted me to post what mine weighed. Very odd...

Nooner has one of the "newer" systems. I haven't talked to him about it recently though. I believe his 2 bag system may be rated down to approx -30* or so.

Hey Nooner, have you tried out the complete (doubled up) system while hanging yet (just sleep system, hammock, tarp)?
Yes i woke up sweating.....it is -30* by the way.....

Doing fine ... and yeah we definitely need to pursue a little observational hydrological engineering! Most folks call it hanging out by Linville River and watching the river flow!
