My take on the Big Carl

I had a dutch clip and loop alien on hand that I wasn't using and decided to try out a hybrid of Dutch's Big Carl. I'll have to give it a good testing and see if my thinking is flawed but I hope it works well and allows me some fine tuning of the height at will. Let me know your thoughts.

Also, does anyone have a clue whether dutch wire would work in place of the zing it in this capacity? I bought some, and have no planned use for it...yet. Just couldn't resist something new and orange.

Thank's dutch for some great product.

What is the purpose of the loop alien? The Big Carl is just the line around the tree, through the loop down do the pack loop and up to the tree loop. The height of the pack is based on diameter of the tree + the height you circle around the tree. Not sure if loop alien is worth the weight. Not sure the wire would gain you anything either... Interesting to hear your take on these modifications! Thanks for sharing.

    The Big Carl rocks!

And I am not biased even though my name is Carl.

Mostly just had it around and put it on to test. I can take it off as needed as it's attached by a larks head. I definitely don't count grams, and enjoy the luxury of having technology and gadgets around when I need it. I figure attaching a loop alien that I could use for whatever to this is a good way to always have it around.

my take on the Big Carl is a string with loops in each end that I pass a stick through to make a toggle. then I hang my pack from that by the grab strap. Ta-Da!

    (I learned that in Scouts)...

I use a fleaz with my Big Carl. I like being able to adjust the height of the pack to put it right where I need it.

That was the idea. We'll see how it works in practice.
