Glad to see that the Neusiok Trail is getting some use. Thanks for the pics.

Great report Gunner and sorry that work called at the last minute and I could not make it. Even though your lows were in the 20s, my lows at work that day were a little bit lower than that. We will do meet at the Dogwood shelter soon.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

    unexpected company" worked out well,
it did indeed since they already had a load of firewood gathered and ready to go.
    Nice report, thanks for that.
One of the coldest winters I ever experienced was in 1965 when I lived in Freiburg Germany as a kid for a year. Snow...lots of snow

It's a real shame that people are ruining the trail like that. There is absolutely no reason to strip bark like that from trees and as hunters they should at least have the decency to bury or move the carcass away from the shelter so the stench doesn't permeate the area

The deer was not near the shelter but in the middle of the trail about 1/2 mile from the shelters, I agree if it was hunters the should moved the carcass off the trail.

There was another tree close by that had been girddle the same way. I see lots of trees with chucks taken out of them for no reason that I can figure out.
