Hammock Camping at Fort Custer State Park (MI)

    Hi all,

I have been a frequent viewer of this site for sometime now and the insight and tips that I have gained from the posters of this site have been great for me as a hammock camper.

I am planning to test my new gear out at a local state park before immersing myself in a true backpacking trip. Fort Custer (FC) is only about 20 minutes away from my location and it would be the perfect spot to test out my gear.

    My question to everyone:

Has anybody camped at FC? If so, any recommendations on a specific campsite?

It is a State Park. Good hanging trees can be hit or miss. This time of year the whole park is not open Kama so sites are more limited. Best recommendation is to drive through what's open, pick the best site, then register.

I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

I will do that. Thanks for the reply.

I doubt there will be many people camping next weekend as the temperatures will fall into the single digits as a low. It will be the perfect time for me to test out my incubator 0° underquilt.

There are some sites that work for hanging there. I was there a couple of weeks ago and i only saw one other person there.

Off season the water is shut off and the bathrooms are closed so bring your own water.

I believe the park is self service St he moment. You can self register and there's a phone to call it in at the camp station. Also no fire wood sales so bring your own if you want a fire.

This is where I've been going to test gear lately too.
