Hi there. My name is Penelope and I'm what you call a "Newbie" around here. This is my very first trip report so bear with me as I ramble a bit...I will post a few pics at the end.
Every year, I come to TEXAS around Thanksgiving and stay until Christmas. This is my company's busiest time of year and my boss assigned me this territory about 6 years ago. The King Family in Cypress (I think Mr. King goes by KINGLONESTAR) pretty much adopted me the first time I came down and I've been staying with them ever since. I have to travel back and forth from here to the factory a LOT during the month (sometimes it seems like every night!!!), but no matter my schedule, they just let me pretty much come and go as I please. They have a daughter who goes by KIKILONESTAR and I just adore her. I play little tricks on her and I play hide and seek with her every night. She always cracks up whenever she finds me...I love her little laugh!
Anyway, I come here every year and it's always nice to get away from the wind, and snow, and blustery cold back at the factory. It was a bit chilly last week but NOTHING like where I'm from. I'd rather be down here on assignment than working at the factory this time of year. The boss runs a tight ship and with this being the busiest time of year, he is all about the bottom line so no time off. In fact, every one of my co-workers is working non-stop. They love it up there though. Every time I stop in, they are all laughing and singing ALL THE TIME!!! Don't get me wrong; I love laughing and singing but COME ON!!!
So when I'm here, the King's always give me a little something to take home with me at the end of my travel season and this year I got my very own DIY Hammock!!! I am SOOOOOOO excited! KINGLONESTAR made it out of the ripstop he gets at Walmart. He just whipped the ends and threw on some rope for the initial suspension. He and his family like to use cinch buckle and/or whoopie sling suspensions but I'll probably just keep the rope on mine. Don't worry though...I'm not gonna hurt any trees with this. We don't have many where I live so I'll probably just use some leftover scraps from the factory to build a stand. I don't know how to build them but we have a department back at the factory that can build anything...and I mean ANYTHING!!! I can't wait to start sleeping up off the floor. I like to sleep cold so this should definitely help with that. In reading around here, I've seen people talk about 'Frozen Butt Syndrome..." I don't know why you would complain about something like that. It sounds AWESOME to me!!! I can't wait to try it out.
Well, thanks for letting me ramble a bit about my time in TEXAS. I like what y'all have going on here with all the hammock information and what-not.
Thanks again to all of you for your hospitality and thanks especially to the King Family. I have to leave Saturday night to go home but maybe I'll see y'all again next year.
Merry Christmas everyone!
...oh, almost forgot the pictures!
