    Cord Locks

    It's a love/hate deal, for me.

Some hold, some don't...I'm sure there are a bazillion variables, but surely they're not all created equal.

Is there such a thing as a "premium" cord lock? Cost really isn't an object.

I don't know if they're the same now that they were about 10 years ago (wow, already?), but I had gotten some from Campmor that had a death grip! So much so, I could barely press them to open my sacks! I just used regular flat drawcord with them at the time...

Boy oh boy, oldgringo! I hope you get a good answer to this one.

I've had very poor luck with cordlocks -- never used 'em on hammock-related gear before, but I had bad experiences when making stuffsacks and fixing gear. The worst ones I got happened to be the most expensive, too!

    I'll be watching this thread....

    Happy New Year!

I get mine from Academy back in the hunting section, by the duck decoy stuff. for bags and stuff they seem to work ok for me.

    Good question, I've also wondered.

No cordlock would fit the bill for all parts of a system, IMO. If it's a stuffsack that goes into a pack in the morning and comes out once in the evening, how critical is it? I try to go with the smallest and lightest ones, but I"m not a thru-hiker that needs one to last for months. If it's a cordlock on my quilt headend, and I will be fiddling with it all night, I want something with some easily handling size and soft roundness...hate square cordlocks.

I suspect that some of the larger manufacturers have access to some better quality ones.

I favor the ellipse cord locks. It does matter where you get them. I picked some up at REI one time (I was there and had an immediate need) and they were just crap. I've been buying mine at Thrifty Outfitters and the ones they are selling hold well. Why anyone makes a lock that won't hold is beyond me, seems like a waste of time.

The cordlocks on my Lost River KAQ seem to hold nicely... Maybe Paul can either reveal his source or he offers them for sale...

The kind with the floating cam in the middle lock down very well as long as there is tension on them. The more tension, the more they grip. I had a link for them somewhere and am still looking...

edit: these are of the style I was talking about http://www.rei.com/product/612218

Just have to ask Dave--what color and size do you need? I have hundreds.
