I ripped seams (to make 6 longitudinal chambers), added faux baffles and added the down from a second throw (took it up to a total 13.8oz). Slept out at -7°C (19°F), started to get chilly tho'.
I have now added the down from yet another throw, it now has 20oz of down in it (extended it to 78" at the same time). The UQ calculator says it should be able to cope with -14°C (7°F).

How did you add the faux baffles? I think I may just do what I thought and add the ripstop to back and fill those chambers with down.

Yes. I had my top quilt sewn with a footbox like everybody else does but I added the down from a Sams $20 pillow. It is actually warmer than I need it to be. I use it down to about 30. It is really warm. Below that and I go with my HG Burrow 0*. I could for sure get into the low 20's but I like my Burrow and don't want to just limit its use to below 20. The down I used might not be as nice or might be a little heavier but it seems to be good down without any pointy ends sticking out and I have $40 in he whole thing. So, I think my 0* Burrow is 2 lbs with overstuff and my homemade is 1 1/2 lbs and good to probably lower 20's no problem.

    costco quilt temps

I sewed elastic cord on each edge and used it as an underquilt. That combined with a foam sleep pad and a 6x3 piece of Reflectix (sp?), along with a mummy sleeping bag top quilt, I slept too warm in the low 20°s

I was thinking about making one, what would the weight difference between 3/4 and full length? and would it be a good idea to make a topquilt too instead of a 4 pound sleeping bag?

I made this one from two quilts, narrowed it to 45", and shook all the down to one side before I cut it.

I was comfortable to 35 last weekend. Loft is just a hair under 2".

For the TQ: I ripped seams to form horizontal baffles, narrowed the width to 50", and sewed in a 3D footbox using a 10"x10" pannel of the same quilt

This is comfy down to 50*, easy, and I have used it into the mid 40s. At 40* i have to add down socks and my down hoody to sleep.

I bought one from bananahammock last week and he turned it into an UQ for me. The finished width is 47" I think and extra down was harvested from an old jacket to fill it up a little more. Can't wait to try it out, should be here in a day or two. Just in time for the winter like temps we're finally going to have again for a few days starting this weekend lol. All I need to do is add a secondary suspension to it and its ready to go.
