N GA- Brasstown Bald: I can see my house from here!

Not really, but you can (barely) see the Atlanta skyline (this only happens a few times a year from what I understand) and Kennesaw Mountain in this picture taken Dec 30, 2016. I live a few miles away from Kennesaw Mountain.

Makes me miss the North GA mountains. Used to go up there all the time. Might have to plan a trip there soon.

From what I understand you can hike up to the top from the parking lot at anytime. I was to plan a trip to watch a meteor shower there one night

While there, walk to the "Cloud Forest" to see the Birch Trees. You can also walk down to the back of the Young Harris College campus. Call YHC to get permission to hike up to Brasstown Bald on the "Wagon Train Trail" from there. We hiked up on MLK day a few years ago through one of the many ice storms they have up top in the winter.

Last Feb, we walked up to BB on the Arkaqua Trail and down the wagon train, staged cars at both TH's. It was a long and great hike.

In another life, I commuted on I 85 south to downtown every day for years. One day I looked up and Stone Mountain was sitting right there. It had to be a very clear morning following a rain. From some building roof, It may have been the then new Home Depot building, some mountains were visible on the day I was there. I was on top of Dekalb Jail more than once but never remember seeing anything but smog. I may be imagining all of these as this was years ago.

Either too cloudy, foggy or smoggy, is my understanding. Even on that day it was a little hazy in the distance, but the views really were spectacular. Typically in the winter you get better far off views for some reason, I'm sure there is some science behind it.
