    Seam grip adhesive

How tightly should seam grip hold? I glued two pieces of silicone/PU (Xenon Wide) fabric together. The next day I was able to pull the pieces apart. I pulled hard but didn't have to use a lot of force. I'm pretty sure I glued two PU sides. Is this about what I should expect?

I'm not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure the silicone coating makes gluing seams rather impossible.I have heard of people using it to make thread injecting a seam easier with slippery fabrics.

If there is silicone in the fabric, I believe you should use something like Silnet or Permatex flowable silicone.

The instructions with xenon wide I bought said to use seam grip, not silicone based. Having said that, seam grip is more of a sealer than a glue, but it sticks pretty good. Did you just put the glue on the fabric and push the pieces together? A lot of times solvent based glues work better if a thin coating is put on each piece, is allowed to mostly dry, then add some more and press together.

if the fabric is PU then it should "bond" the fabric pieces together as long as you adhere a PU coated side (shiny side) to another PU coated side. if you have a non-PU attached to a PU then it will not bond.

I am finishing up a new tarp using the Ripstop Membrane PU. Used seam grip to reinforce the corners and at the ends of the ridgeline. completely bonded fabric overnight.

Glueing plastics is highly technical, and well above my pay grade. That said, I've had surprisingly good results with hot glue.

How did you pull them apart? Peel or shear? I believe many of these adhesives really only perform well in a shear load vs a peel or cleavage type of load. ADHEASIVE STRESS LINK

Make sure you are glueing the correct sides together.
