It sounds like you just need to have a pad for your shoulders. Something like the Speer SPE would help hold the pads in place. I used pads for years, I would use 2 pads in a "T" shape. The pads block the wind which is a plus. UQ's are nice I admit but pads can work very well also. I slept through some nasty storms using pads in my Clark with the advantage of not having to worry about my UQ getting wet etc. The important thing is to get out there and hang safely and pads can accomplish this well.i felt a little chilled when my feet or arm smashed up against the side of my hammock. i wish i could afford an underquilt,
Now I will go out and in my hammock with a 2/3 UQ that also requires the use of a pad.
