Hey there Mike, welcome back. So sorry for your loss. Wilderness is a helpful and healing place to be. (So is HF in it's own way). I stayed away awhile too, and find myself lurking more and more frequently. You're clearly among friends.

Welcome back and thank-you for the re-introduction/update.
One of my sons was a marine BUT he still prefers to sleep on the ground cowboy style (or is this Marine style - SnugPak Jungle bag and ground cloth only; no tarp/tent). I am glad to hear a couple off you evolved back up into the trees with us :>)
