This is my first time posting a trip report so it's not going to be good. I'd be happy to add any information that people would find interesting.
Yosemite is packed in the summer and full of redtapes, but offers solitude and headache-free paperwork in the winter. Just show up at Badger Ski pass and ask for an overnight permit, free of charge of course, and you're free to explore for as many nights as you want.
I spent two nights there in ideal conditions; sunny during the day and clear skies at night. It did dip into the single digits but not too bad. I brought a tarp but did not deploy it so I can stare at the stars at night.
