Anybody know of where to hang in TX? I'm new to hammock camping and have been hanging in the back yard and will never go back to a tent. Sentax77 has driven me to do backpack camping.

You'll have to check out state parks and Sam Houston National Forest (Lone Star Trail). There is not much public land in Texas unfortunately. Dinosaur Valley State Park, Colorado Bend State Park, and Lost Maples State Natural Area are some of the better state parks to offer backpack camping sites.
Yea, Colorado Bend is nice with lots of trails. Arkansas is close to you and has some beautiful landscape to check out.
Check out the State Parkers on youtube, good info.
Howdy and welcome to the trees! There really are tons of places to hang, just some advanced planning and a bit of a drive for some of them. There are National Forests, National Grasslands, State Parks, Corps of Engineer Parks, State Natural Areas, and a few other assorted places.
In addition to the specific places listed above, both OK and AR have a lot of options as well.
There are Facebook Groups worth the look as well for Backpacking In Texas as well as others.
Check out the trip planning forum, specifically the Southwest area and you'll see both upcoming events and also places folks have camped before.
I just spent the weekend with a group at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin. In North Texas there's also Cedar Hill State Park, LBJ National Grasslands, and not too far south of you, one of my favorites, Fairfield Lake State Park.
All the places I've mentioned as well as those above by others are hammock friendly.
Have fun and again, welcome to the trees!

Looking back to last year to reminisce and forward to post Covid-19 hangs in 2021
Texas Hammock Hangers Facebook Group
Last Memorial day, Wife and I went over to Tyler State Park. 2 hours east of where you are. We hiked a trail (I have been orienteering that park for 10 years, and helped put in the perminant courses there). We ate and I tossed the hammocks up in the trees. Wife had never tried them. I got two thumbs up, followed by her napping. After a nap, took them down, hiked some more trails and were back in Dallas for dinner. You CAN reserve spots there and hang. Plus there are a lot of trails. Bike trails also.
And has been said, the LBJ national grasslands are just an hour north of you. Just look for some tall pines to hang and camp around.
