Site selection is of course a great answer, but most of us know that in many places you are required to stay in very particular, and well impacted/compacted spots.

I like the tyvek idea myself, but as mentioned it can be exceptionally slippery. I've used a small piece of a poly-tarp myself as a landing mat under my hammock for years. It has grommets so I can tack it down in wind if needed, and it makes a nice sit pad on wet trails as well. You could cut a 5x7 piece fairly easily from a $5 box store poly tarp. 4 binder clips and a few folds and you'd have a bathroom floor setup.

The tyvek isn't ultralight to begin with, so if it's too slippery, just criss cross some grip tape on the tarp.

Gonna be throwing it in a Duluth pack and into a canoe anyway so counting ounces isn't something we all do in the bwca. We counted lbs, and rods to be portaged. Everything else was just ballast to keep the canoe from getting blown around in the wind.

Set Whatever you are using to hold the ground sheet down (rocks, wood) 12-18 inches in from the edge and fold the edge over the rocks creating a curb. Tuck it under the rocks or place something else on top to hold it down.

I use a Frogg Toggs poncho. Cheap, lightweight, and multi-use (poncho, ground cloth, pack cover, etc). Bass Pro sells a similar one with a fabric that is not quite as slick.

So I have made a decision on this.
I have ordered from Walmart one of the Outdoor Products 5' x 7' backpacker tarps (I think I may have actually purchased the last one).
So as many of you know, this is a small and lightweight tarp with grommets.
    Should work perfect.
If runoff gets bad, I will just use some stakes to or a few large sticks to elevate the edges or roll one edge to keep water out.

I should receive the tarp next week. I will play around with it and let you all know how it seems.
