One tree and 2" black pipe?

It will flex a fair bit. I use 2" schedule 40 pipe (which I believe is the "black pipe"), for work in theatre all the time. It is strong, but has a lot of flex. It will be bouncy when in the hammock, and difficult to get the hang angle right.

What schedule pipe are you considering using? I would think a sch80/XS pipe would be a minimum size with sch120 or greater providing more peace of mind. Fortunately, iron pipe isn't likely to actually break and drop you to the ground (unless it's a corroded, rusty mess). I can see it slowly bending over time though. I have a closeline in my back yard made with 2" pipe supports (no idea what schedule, they came with the house) that are bent inward at both ends. And that's from nothing more that the tension on the lines, and some occasional wet laundry.

Get a 6x6 and a sleve to set it in and it then becomes removable.

That is what I used, works fine.. used quick dry concrete..

Where did you get the sleeve? Home depot hast 4.5 foot pieces but they're almost $40.

You could fill the pipe with ready mix, that would probably hold. I would suggest galvanized instead of black Iron though.

I buried 3" thick fence post for my back yard hammock. It's working great. Go to a fence company and they will help you get the right gauge thickness. I didn't use a sleeve, so they are permanent, but they do not bend at all.
