Getting ready to pull the trigger on my first quilt. Probably going to be a 10F. I've narrowed it down to 2: the Enigma, because Enlightened Equipment is the gold standard, and the Flight Jacket, because that's the cheapest I've seen for the same weight.
What am I getting for the extra $50 for the EE? Is it just that everyone loves EE, so they can charge what they want? Are they shaped better? Or more durable?
How are you speccing the flight jacket? I specced comparable flight jackets with Enigma's and the flight jacket was $15 more expensive.
Also you say this is your first quilt but somehow you've already decided that EE is the "gold standard". How did you arrive at that conclusion?

Just the basic 72" long, 800 fill duck down is $240. I see no point in matching the 850 fill since they are already about the same weight. But I guess that's it eh? EE just doesn't offer 800 fill, so thats why their quilt is more expensive?
$240 is for drawcord/snaps footbox. Enigma has a sewn footbox. You're at $299 on the UGQ with 850 down sewn footbox and $290 for the EE Enigma for your apples to apples comparison.
Ah! quite right on the footbox. So I guess that's the heart of my question, I'll start looking into the difference, but if you care to comment on one over the other, that'd be awesome.
Actually there are others that get as much coverage as well and they are Hammock Gear and LocoLibre so don't forget to check those out as well.
Lot of good down quilts out there. I've only had Hammock Gear but have at times wished to try Loco Libre, UGQ, EE, or Warbonnet. Honestly I've been leaning towards an EE Enigma for a few weeks now. I only have 40, 30, and 20 degree TQ's...feel like I'm missing a piece lol. Don't think I'll need a 0 degree for a while though. I may get another 30.
Loco Libre was actually my first choice (the chevron baffles make sense), but the 14 week lead time just doesn't work for me.
The other big difference is vertical baffles. Ugq charges more for that in
their higher priced model. That is the better comparison to the enigma. Also the ee revelation is the better comparison to the flight jacket since both use snaps/zipper
Ahh! So vertical baffles are the way to go? Kinda odd that the renegade is heavier than the Flight jacket, but the Enigma is lighter than the Revelation?
