I think the shelters comment for in my behalf. I personally don't care if we do shelters or not. I mentioned shelters, so people wanting to meet/catch up on the trail would know where we would be on what day. As long as the miles are easy enough per day. I could careless. I've never been on the AT. I'll have to take a day just to drive the 10 hr drive. Starting the hike on the 11th or the 12th is just fine.

My understanding is that we will meet in Damascus and take a shuttle to where we want to start. Also, Keep the miles so as be enjoyable, so we don't have to recooperate at Trail Days, correct?

How many are definitely hiking and how many are possibles?

Genuine Draft and I are planning to hike and yes, I think picking up a shuttle in Damascus would be the easiest method by far.

So I'm awake early on a day off and thinking about this hike. I break out my new copy of The AT Guide (Thanks, Awol!) and take a peek at some ideas. Would anyone who wants to hike object to starting at Wise Shelter (Site of the annual Winter Hang) and hiking SOBO to Damascus? Not a ton of climbing, good water and only 33.1 miles if you stay on the AT. There is opportunity to pick up the Virginia Creeper Trail and blue blaze in to Damascus if you like. As it stands right now, Wise to Damascus is my plan, starting 12 May. Anyone with me?

I'm bumping this thread back to the top because I'm interested in the hike. Location isn't nearly as important as logistics and making sure it's not a grueling hike. The last thing I want to do is hold any of you real hikers up or end up needing to be carried off the trail.

My car isn't the most reliable, and I'm not comfortable driving it through mountains. If anyone near the coastal area of SC/NC (perhaps Charlotte) are going and wouldn't mind a tag along that will split gas costs, send me a PM.

This week I'm going to ask for May 11 through 14 off from work. If it gets the OK, I'm in! JD will drop me at the park to meet up with you at the Wise shelter, then I'll grab at ride back to WV with him at the end of Trail Days. He works the Leki booth.

I put in my request and have have the time off! Put me down for taking the shuttle with ya. When should we have the reservation made and what's the cost looking like? I'm so excited to spend some time for the first time on the AT and then get to do Trail Days.
