It is possible it will be a little sluggish at first, depending how much oil on the machine, the type oil and how cold it is in your garage. I don't think it will cause any problems as long as it will sew. It will loosen up fairly quickly once you start sewing. Give it a try. If it really doesn't want to sew, motor won't turn then too cold, may overheat the motor, or strip a gear,

I wouldn't want to anger the oils and force them to get viscious! Of course if the get cold, they might get viscous.

    Ummm, heater?
Electric heat for the sewing sessions?
I know it's not the lightest gear, and it's a lot of stuff, but I use a canoe, so it's a lot like car camping, but without the other cars.

    Haha you crack me up.
    My foul, my fowl.

Those machine oils get really mean when they are cold, but so do I, so I sympathize.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Use your tarps to wall off a small corner that might be easier to heat?

"The pour point of a liquid is the temperature at which it becomes semi solid and loses its flow characteristics."

    So says Wikipedia.

The pour point of Singer Sewing Machine Oil is -33°C (-27°F). I don't think you'll hurt your machine by using it in any above-freezing temps. However, if this is your wife's machine, then perhaps you should play by *her* rules...

Always sewing here with the "Iron Maiden' a model 66 Red Eye. Treadle , Off grid. Now this machine is over 100 years old. Well oiled over most of its life. I've pulled it away from the wall of our old drafty wood heated cabin in near zero* F. temps and sewed up a ancient Frostline down vest or what ever project was at hand. I never had to consider it's comfort. BUT, you may be running a modern plastic and pot metal machine (not a thing wrong with that) and it may balk. Extra consideration if it's not your personal machine would probably be in order. Even a light bulb turned on under the machine deck would warm it quickly. No?

Sewing machine oil should not be affected by cold temps. If you are using a machine with a greased worm gear (i.e. Singer 15-91 or 201) it might start a bit sluggish, but cold grease that is the same viscosity as Vaseline won't slow a sewing machine motor down. If necessary, just turn a small area heater on the machine for a few minutes ahead of time to warm it up.
