KAQ Help

I picked up a custom KAQ made for a zipper modded Hennessy a little while back and have a couple of questions.

1. I'm having a hard time adjusting the draw cords and suspension such that there's no gap between the hammock and KAQ. It has draw cords on both ends and came with two JRB style attachment bungees. It's as if the suspension wants to draw the two corners to the center. Seems like it could benefit from another suspension line running up over the ridgeline pulling the corners away from each other.

2. Have heard of some people using it in place of the CCF pad in a SS. Seems to fit nicely in that role. Logic tells me you'd still need to use a space blanket as a vapor barrier under the hammock. Is that the case?

I rarely used a SB in mine. It's a good idea, but not required.

I think a KAQ and a SS are a great combination.

If your KAQ is one of Patrick's originals, it came with 1/8th shockcord. I believe it needs 3/16ths. I also had better luck using JRB suspension cords on each end.

Is that the way you have yours connected? It may be that the shock cord is not quite long enough. Is it stretched out to the max?

Yes. When I just did the larks head alone (at left side of pic) it didn't seem to be holding the KAQ up enough.

Is using an additional line that goes over the ridgeline something you do with your KAQs John?

You can try that. Certainly won't hurt anything. I always sent along a small piece of shock cord with 2 mitten hooks designed just for that purpose.

I'm pretty sure you didn't send it with mine, but no biggie, I can make something up.

By the way, do you remember what kind and thickness the insulation is?

I'd make some up for you but I sent all that stuff to Paul. Just a short length of shock cord (I think I made mine with a piece of 10") tied into a loop with 2 mitten hooks. You could use the small S biners as well.

The insulation would have been CS XP 5.0.
