    New DIY Sock

Pics of it all rolled up for the time being. Its 10.30pm here, dark, -10 deg C and 3+ inches of snow. Had a test hang in the hammock before sewing the last few bits up. Pics of the sock in use will be taken and posted once light.

Untreated breathable ripstop to hopefully minimise condensation.

    Weight 10.88oz

Did you follow Just Jeff's instructions, tapered and closed on the foot end, open on the head end, slides along the ridgeline?

We've had over 3 weeks of continuous cold and snow. Very unusual for the whole of the UK. Parts of Scotland have been -27 deg C and lower. Coldest it has been since the 60's. Councils are on the verge of running out of road grit. People stuck in cars on Motorways (Freeways?). Planes and trains disrupted. Schools closed. Set for another 10 days of the same.

Pretty much followed the just jeff design. I used two separate pieces of fabric but haven't used a taper. MK1 I used one and it didn't 'sit' as well around the hammock. MK 2 fabric has a better drape, is fairly tough, light and compact very well.

After hanging it this morning I decided to add the taper to the foot end. This has reduced the weight to 9.22oz.

The bungee cord used to keep the sock rolled up is used to seal the foot end. This can be removed and will allow the sock to slide down slightly to vent.

Head end has a draw cord. This has been sewn so that it is on the inside.

    Nice!

Is it difficult to close and open from inside?

I thought about using that method for my insulated sock, but I didn't think I could do that with a PeaPod rigged.

Not at all. Just reach above my head and pull the cord through the cord lock.

Looks like great protection from the wind, but I'm kinda lost as to how you get in and out of it. You mention that the head end end has a draw cord sewn inside. What does this open up and where? Very nice construction and light weight. I'm just wondering how one can get in and out quickly for that middle of the night pee break.

I guess its basically a human size stuff sack.

Get in and pull the sock over your head and pull cord.

Thankfully I'm not a middle of the night pee-er as yet. That could be an issue!
