    New in The Black Hills

Hello. My son asked for a camping hammock for his birthday. When I went to order one from Fox Outfiiters, they were having a buy one get one free sale. So, I now own a hammock. I live in South Dakota, so I was very interested in how to stay warm. I made myself an underquilt from a Bed, Bath, and Beyond down throw which I threw a little extra down into. I used the instructions on this forum. I also used the instructions on this forum to make a Clew suspension system. I wish I would have decided to follow that before I started working on the actual quilt. I would have made vertical baffles instead of horizontal. Oh, well. I still think I'll be o.k. I look forward to trying it out (in the backyard). If I don't take to hanging, I can just give the underquilt to my son. 😊

I'll try to attach some pics.

Hello and welcome from Marietta GA. Sounds like you have a great start and some skills at DIY, and there's no reason you shouldn't enjoy the fruits of your labor. Happy hanging!

Welcome to HF! Since you live in South Dakota's banana belt, I hope you enjoy your banana-shaped lounging/sleeping arrangements in the future. I grew up in SD (born in Rapid City) and there are many times that I wish I could get back for more Black Hills visits. So beautiful!

    Hello and welcome

Looking forward to finishing the southern half of the Centennial Trail in the Black Hills this May...and it will be my first multi-day hanging backpacking trip. Hopefully I can learn enough before I go to stay warm!
