Might have gotten up to an inch of rain last night but as dry as it was it probably wasn't enough. Oz, I'll be carrying 2 1L bottles. These will be topped off at the trailhead Saturday morning. At the half way point of the Sat. hike will be 5 gals. of water for lunch, topping off the bottles and cameling up for the second part of the day. At the North Campsite will be another 5 gals. plus access to Blue Sink. This will get us to the halfway point Sunday where there will be another 7.5 gals.. The 2 liters will be enough for me some will use more some less. Your 3 L and the 2 big hill, ?, bottles may be more than needed and each liter weighs 2.2 lbs.

The 3L bladder should be fine per leg. For that "little more than less" factor, bring a water bottle and use first until it's empty. After the first leg, you should be able to adjust what you need as long as you carry your empty water bottles, just in case. You can always just use the bladder and leave the bottles empty.

To lower your pack weight, empty the entire contents of your pack on the ground and make 3 piles with it.
    1) Put the items you WANT to have with you in this pile.
    2) Put the items you carry and NEVER use in this pile.(Put the first aid kit in pile #1 and adjust it later).
    3) Put the items you HAVE to have.(A radio shouldn't be here, this is where your backpack, hammock, tarp, food, etc is located).

Now, step back and look at the entirety of the 3 piles. When up close to the piles, most items look like must haves. Determine how tired you want to be and also what is "acceptable" for the hike. Time to lessen the weight.

Now, some of those #2 items will make it back into the gear bin without a second thought. Others may stay in the pile for further consideration later on. Keep the first aid kit if it's in this pile and only pare down the items in it that are not needed.

Reevaluate #3 and put your "keep" items set aside into a new pile #4. These will make the trip. Reevaluate #1 and put "keep" items into #4.

Now, weigh #4 to see if this base weight is acceptable. Do same with #4 + water and food. If you have surprised yourself with a new lower weight, you can look at piles #1-3 and bring 1 or 2 luxury items. If these items never come out of your pack, do you actually need them?(These can be reevaluated after the trip).
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    olddog,
I can't remember if we have cellphone coverage throughout the hike. I think I've counted 15 people so far. Just want to be sure I have enough parking permits for everyone.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to share a ride with Mike, I have family I need to stop and see so I'll be leaving about 6:30 am and pulling in about 2 PM.

With Verizon I've had good coverage until up on the north end then it gets sketchy.

FL, March 2017, Hike thru Richloam North Section of FT

Worst case scenario I'd hike a few miles Saturday and just return to camp till Sunday. I don't think Im ready for 16 miles.
