    Adding junk to your tarp?

Whats up with guys adding extra junk to their tarps? Clips on this worms on that flees, flies& wasps?!?!?! - BPL thread

I thought this was kind of funny. I guess you're not allowed to save weight on a cuben tarp and have some fun/add convenience by adding an ounce or two.

Remember, it's BPL. There is no adding weight.

The only weight I added to my cuben tarp was 2 stingerz. A grand total of 8 grams. About 0.3 ounces. Yes, I'm willing to haul around an extra 8 grams for that convenience.

Funny as you could cut this much weight by getting a hair cut.

I don't know how I manage all that extra weight.

    1 Dutch Hook = 0.40g
    1 Dutch Wasp = 2.25g
    6 Dutch Fleaz = 5.88g
    Total = 8.53g

    Definitely a back breaker.

Well, I personally just have 1.25mm line for my RL and all tie outs for my cuben fiber tarp. I splurged and use about 6ft of 3/32nds shock cord and hooks for me doors though .

I get the urge to streamline. I generally find the trucker's hitch (my go to) to be be plenty fast/simple/easy/reliable and so that is what I use. I have also transitioned to using simple 12ft kevlar straps and a becket hitch to hang my hammock. Same reasoning applies. Feels like less fiddle factor (not sure it really is) and a little more...pure I suppose.

That said, I also have spider suspension with dutch clips, a RL biner, CRL with wasp and dutch hook, as well as some flyz. They are sweet.

As I guy who appreciates, and honestly started out with, BPL, I can say that it is a great resource for some things, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. The "light is right" mindset is strong over there. I have actually found myself in the opposite position: telling some BPLers that hammockforums is a great resource, even if there is a mindset of "endlessly tinkering".

I like going light, and like tinkering, so I find a great deal to appreciate in both places.

I started out with BPL as well about a decade ago and with the way it's gone downhill I'm surprised you could actually find a post that doesn't start with FS: However when people used to discuss backpacking it could get pretty heated over weights.

Haha so funny thats my post! I got stuck at a bar with my wife and 4 of her girlfriends and was looking to get a little debate action after a few beers. Im just amazed at all the gadgets people add to their stuff. Im all about simplicity simple and most effective while backpacking. My partner doesnt care about how much is in his pack he has a easy 50 lb load. I on the other hand can get a bit extreme. (Embrase the hitches
To each their own. It was simply about debate and nothing else. Trying to throw a little gas on the fire. Beer tends to do that haha

If I ask all of these gram weenies what they drive when they gripe so much about weight the only acceptable answer would be a lightweight Lotus or other subz2k pound car. If they drive an SUV their argument is void! (no, don't care how many people they cram into it. Lol)
