    Greetings from chilly NW Colorado

I found my way here from the Hoodlum Forum at their suggestion. It looks like they steered my right, to say the very least. I have always wondered about hammock camping, but had convinced myself that it was strictly a warm weather option. This site (as well as the good folks at Hoodlums) have really opened my eyes. I will be doing a lot of searching and reading here to get up to speed. At this point, I really don't have much to offer, as I have zero experience with the hammock. I have extensive camping experience, hunting, dutch oven and cast iron campfire cooking, and been in the outdoors most of my life. But this is opening up a whole new facet for me. Thank you all!!!

Welcome to the forum Waddy. You did come to the right place. All the info you need is here and lots of folks ready to steer you in the best direction for you. I'm sure some fellow colorado folks will chime in here soon but there is a hang coming up in colorado and it would be a great place to have a first hand look at gear. In fact you have a very good hammock maker right in your area. Warbonnet Outdoors. There are also quite a few cottage industry folks making great gear for hammocks once you choose what you want. Don't forget to check out the video's," trip reports" as you'll see some of the gear in action by allot of crazy/happy folk.

Yep - I just got back to Colorado after 12 years away and am looking forward to some winter hangs. Hope you can make it to the February hang!

Check my page for some newbie hammocking info...it'll give you some context for the graduate-level stuff you read here!

    Hello and welcome to HF!

It's loads of fun outfitting for hammocking. Actually, it can be way beyond just fun and become rather addicting tweaking your setup. Welcome to the fun!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it. I checked out the thread and it would be a wonderful opportunity and learning experience. Bummer!! Thanks for the info and links, I am actively trying to bring myself up to speed. Probably the hardest thing to get around is all the acronyms. I finally printed out the acronym sticky post and that has helped. Sounds like lots of wonderful folks here. Hopefully I'll get enough "learnin'" to at least be able to ask some intelligent questions pretty quick. Thanks again.
