    RidgeRunner pad widths

Do you folks notice a difference when using 25" vs 27" pads? Thanks!

    I have found that I prefer a wider pad. I have and have used, either a 25", 27" or a 30".
The 30" is my favorite if deciding on using a pad. Snug fit in the double layer RR, but slides in easily.
Really changes the lay. Seems to really flatten it out, and makes side sleeping way more comfortable.
All my pads are the self-inflating type. I rarely close the valves. Just the pad itself, un-inflated, is my usual.
I know it's not the lightest gear, and it's a lot of stuff, but I use a canoe, so it's a lot like car camping, but without the other cars.

What 27/30" pads do you use?

    Thanks, Scott

This link below is the 30" that is my favorite for my RR. Left over from my ground days. It's big and heavy, but my canoe doesn't care what it weighs.
The 27" I have is also from Cabelas. The 27" was the version prior to them changing to the 30". I've been using self inflating pads since the mid 80's.
I've also got a couple of the Thermorest brand in 25", but prefer the wider one's in the RR.

I have bought foam here -

    The 1/8" and 1/4" seem very light - haven't tried the 1/2"

This one is 3 times more expensive : http://gossamergear.com/thinlight-hammock-pad.html

Is there a reason, or is it just marketing ?
Also I do not understand why they sell it in 59" long, there. That's not long enough for a pad (?)

Is it thick, hard to compress in between the fingers, or tender soft camping pad foam, they do not specify any weights ?

It is soft but dense. Not as firm as the blue camping pads (but that may be because mine are thinner), more like the foam in a Z-rest.
I bought about 7 ft of the 60" wide foam and made two pads 30" wide (one for my brother)
My 1/4" kind of folds around me - the 1/2" probably keeps its shape better.
