    Diagonal or not

So Ive been making good use of my PHS... Daughter and I took a nap in the Traveler today.

Curious... How many sleep diagonally in their hammocks and how many dont.....

I find that its more natural to lie diagnoally... Is that an inherent quality of the gathered end hammocks?

If I lengthen the RL, would lying down the center be more comfortable? I know I can try this... But the PHS has to be taken down during the week so the wife can have her living room back.

Definitely diagonally. I can't get comfortable at all laying in the direction of the hang - mainly from my knees hyper extending. Lengthening the ridge line probably helps, but I think you'd need to really increase the tension on the suspension to get anywhere close to comfortable.

DEFINITELY diagonally! I have gathered-end hammocks and the diagonal lay is the secret to their comfort.

    Another on the diagonal.
That's my biggest problem with the Clarks and Claytors, I just can't get diagonal enough to get real comfy.

Short answer - I lay diagonally.

Long answer - I tried lying straight down the middle the first few times. In order to get flat you have to pull the hammock really tight (or lengthen the ridgeline as much as you can), which makes the hammock cocoon me so tight that it causes shoulder squeeze. Hanging it with some sag allows me to get diagonally, which is how I usually lay now...but sometimes on my DIY Speer-types I'll lay with one leg on each side of the tight center ridge. If the sides aren't pulled too tight, this is pretty comfortable for a little while b/c it elevates my feet while still supporting my knees a bit so I don't hyperextend them. Then I curl up fetal and go to sleep!

Most of the time diagonally, but I do have a couple of narrower gathered end hammocks that are quite nice when I lay in line.

One night as I was testing the ASRL, I woke up all claustrophobic because the sides of the traveler were up around my head. It was the night I had it stretched out to 105". I also had neglected to sting the foot end higher, and I had slid down into the hammock.

OK... I also know whipping or how the end is gathered plays a major role on how the hammock hangs.

I cut some fabric for a DIY for one of my kids, and gathered the ends like I did in the video about attaching slings to a gathered end hammock. When my son got in it... the foot end had a very nice "pocket" to stretch out in right in the centerline of the hammock. Kinda hard to explain....

    Yes.

The angle of the dangle is at around 2:00 & 7:00 or 11:00 & 5:00 if you live south of the equator.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!
