    Cool Newguy from Texas

Hello everyone! I just joined HF and wanted to introduce myself. I'm a longtime ground sleeper, but have recently started to look into hanging for living. I found this site doing research for my first purchase and boy am I impressed. I have found this site to be most valuable and look forward to learning from all of you. I was set to choose between a WBBB or a Clark until tonight when I ran across a thread that list about 7 or 8 other hammocks I hadn't heard of yet. So, I guess it's back to the research table for now. I'm hoping to get my hammock soon so that I can hook up with a group that's going hanging in one the national forest down here in east Texas in March. Anyway, I just wanted say hello and I hope I get a chance to meet you all someday face to face.

    Thanks,

    Slinky

    Howdy.
Yeah, picking a hammock these days is no easy task; so many choices. If you can find somebody nearby with a hammock, it would be well worth it to see if they'll let you give it a try. Opinions only matter to the one voicing them. That said, you seem to be on the right track already.

Thanks everyone. Do you think it'd be worth trying to go on the March hang w/o a hammock just to see all the different types of hammocks that show up? Or is there some kind of Hammock convention sometime/somewhere I could see and try them all?

Add one more "welcome" to the list.

Show up to the East Texas Hang and you'll see a wide variety of set ups. In fact one of the fun things of a group hang is "show and tell". You will find that everyone does something a little different and there is no perfect right (or wrong for that matter) way to do things.

There is a growing community of hangers in Texas, but the idea of a Hammock Convention is too civilized and organized. Go to the hang.

Once again, welcome. It's great to see another Texan on here.

    Hi slinky! Welcome to HF!

Going to a hang is a great idea. There are some important differences between hammock brands and it could really save you some trouble if you get to see and try some in person!

Good to have you with us.
