    Shock Cord Thickness-Reference

I purchased some shock cord to replace a broken line on a Hennessy Hyperlite. The source was Supply Captain, suggested by MCLMM in this thread. I wasn't sure which size cord I needed, so I bought both the 1/8th and 3/16th versions in coyote brown. Top is unknown diameter from a Hennessy Hyperlite. Second and third are 1/8th and 3/16th, respectively. The bottom is 550 paracord for reference. The HH cord is slightly thinner than the 1/8th. Photographed with a 18% gray background to ensure color accuracy.

Might be something else in that neighborhood, but I believe the HH line is 3/32".

HH uses two types 3/32 on the ULBA and Hyper and 1/8 on the Exped and Explr. Honestly either will work depends what you want to put on. If you're counting grams, then the 3/32. Since the smallest you bought is 1/8 then the 1/8. I wouldn't go out and buy the 3/32. Unless you want to, that is...

I'm just going to use the 1/8th. It is far more robust than the 3/32nd, and I'll take the weight for the extra security. Besides, I like the color more. I mainly wanted everyone to have a good reference to compare the diameters when they need to get some shock cord.

I like to use 1/8 for everything...tarp tensioners, adding to packs for attaching stuff, etc.

You should be commended for taking the time for others to have something visual for comparison.

I also like the 1/8 thats on my HH Exped and I'll have to change out the 3/32 on my HH ULBA some time.

Thanks for taking the time to provide the visual aid.
