While I haven't done this with a tarp, I use this approach to hang my hammock from a hammock stand. IME this configuration works fine. One shortcoming I encounter with the UCR & whoopie sling, though, is the lack of means to gain mechanical advantage when tightening the line.

I definitely agree with Scott about minding the 'loose' ends, but that becomes second nature if you've the mindset for it.

We tried this also. Decided to just stay with the Prussics. A Prussic with 5 wraps is approximately 1" long on the Ridge line. The UCR splice is a minimum of 5" to 10". So it adds 10" to 20" on the minimum tree span.

Also, as sclittlefield pointed out, the UCR slips way to easily if the pull tab end is disturbed in some manner.

The UCR is way cool and slightly easier to adjust than the Prussic, but the added length and touchiness is just too much for us.

Thats why I havent used it.

It would work, well I might add. But it adds length.

Everything has its upsides and downsides...
