using same dia. amsteel for tarp ridgeline with prusik

Anybody tried using amsteel (7/64) as a tarp ridgeline with same diameter prusik knot? I am thinking of making a 4 inch continuous loop for the 5 wrap prusiks from the amsteel. Seems like I saw a thread where someone used speer no tangle in a similar fashion.

Prusiks usually only work if the cord your wrapping round is of a larger diameter to that you're actually using for the prusiks.

Cant hurt to try. Ive had pretty good luck getting the 1.75mm Zing It to prusik onto itself. It slips at around 30 pounds of force, though.

As some one that risks my life on my prussics every day, I can assure you that a prussic will not hold useing same diameter cordage. If you want to use same size change your knot to a Blake hitch or a Taut line hitch. I find it easier to just use a smaller cord for my prussic.

Agreed - you're better off with a smaller diameter cord for the prussik. Try it- you're not risking your life hanging your tarp, but no matter how it works, a smaller cord will work better.

Plus, Amsteel is soooooo slippery! Zing-It 1.75mm may work very well with 7/64 Amsteel, go for 4 loops.

This might be a good place for mason twine...not enough of it to get into mischief.

The Dynaglide we recently got from Opies group purchase... what is the equivalent to that in amsteel? Trying to figure out my lines and which prussic lines to use.

We use 1.75 mm Lash-It/Zing-It as a Prussic loop on 1.75 mm Lash-It/Zing for our tarp ridge lines.

Have done so for a long time.

    No problems.

Need a minimum of 5 wraps for it to hold adequately though.

Try it - you aren't hanging from it or risking your life or anything dangerous like that

Perhapse a Klemheist would be a better choice for this. Since you only need grip in one direction it is my understanding that it may hold better?
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.

The 1.75 does hold well on the 2.5mm Amsteel. IIRC 3 loops was plenty.
