My buddy Keith made the blue tarp on the left out of a Kelty Tent rain fly.
As you can see he Incorporated the original zipper in the middle of the tarp in some crazy way that makes no sense to me.

"Humiliate your surroundings"
Picked up a large dome tent from the thrift store today. It had a large rain fly to go with it. Not the best shape wise but with some cutting and a couple of stiches I think it will do for now. Only $10. Also I cut all the netting out of it and some of the nylon panels to make stuff sacks. Also got a Coleman sleeping bag out of a storage auction. I think I am going to make a pea pod out of that. That was free!!

Free is good- it allows you to test the concept while you save up for better/warmer/lighter formats, or gear upgrades!
KM -who loves the thrift stores....
sleeping bag- peapod is what I'm using at the moment, but MYOG quilts, I believe, will hopefully be coming along sometime during this semester! good idea!
