    Which event?

Which hammock hanging event(s) would be best to attend to see the most variety of hammocks and gear. I'm from New York but would be interested to travel south to attend. I guess I'd like to make the most out of my journey. I'm retired so I could stay as long as it lasted. Please list the dates and location. Trail Days sounds great but I'm not sure where and when it's held. I did check the calendar but didn't see it. I've been hanging for a few years now but would like to see all the newest gear.

    Thanks, Miguel

Trail Days is the weekend after Mother's Day (May 14-16). Damascus, VA; in the southwest corner of Virginia.

It's a great time and there are more hammocks there every year. But, in terms of innovative hammock set-ups, the 'hangs' are probably the better bet. Everybody tries to show-off their system a little more when the company is exclusively hangers. Kind of fun, like watching a new parent show pictures of their hideous newborn, whom they think is beautiful.

Last year there were about 40+ people at the Mt Rogers winter hang. The hang out has grown each year so there will probably more than that this year.

Ed Speer's Hot Springs hang out is also very popular.

    EDIT:

Mt Rogers is going on the last weekend in Jan. this year. The Hot Springs hang is held 4 times a year.

There is also an upcoming New Jersey hang.

Check out the Hang Out forums for a list of upcoming events.

Thanks....somehow I overlooked the "Hangout Forum". I suspect all my answers will be found there.

Trail Days seem like a definite since it's within an easy days drive. What's the scene like there. Are there plenty of trees to hang from or would a stand etc be in order? Do most of the hangers try to gather in one area?

There's a PA Ruck (www.paruck.com) that may be a lot closer. Check the website for the demos they're doing on gear.

Of course, if a lot of HF folks are @ the VA Trail Days, it might be more fun, and worth the drive!

Gobs plenty of trees....and Poison Ivy.
There are usually pockets of hangers, but no concentrated hanging area. At least, not since 2007 when they had an area taped off. I don't think that went over very well with the groundlings. Cry-babies!

There will be a Maryland MAHHA hang in the spring, but date has not been chosen. Big variety of stuff there too. You'll see flurry of posts once date is picked.

Miguel - C'mon down to the NJ Winter Hang at the end of the month. Not the largest hang going but it's close and soon.

Cannibal; they weren't crying because of the taped off area but because they were uncomfortable.
