Currently experimenting with Dynaglide main rope with UCR, using mitten hook (a la Griz) to attach prussik of 3/32" bungee cord to tail of UCR. Looks just like Opie's picture, but with bungee and mitten hook. So far so good. I use a structural ridgeline, so force on UCR increases with greater distance between trees. Next test will use trees about 27' apart.

one other idea in the "It ain't rocket science" department....

I want minimize the increase in necessary minimal tree distance due to the bury lengths of the UCR. This means I want the prusik on the suspension line to be as close as it can be to the bury entrance. This means I want the cord on the UCR that clips to the prusik on the suspension line to be higher up the UCR than the buried eye tail.

What I have done is to pierce the buried eye tail right at the bury with 1.8mm Lash-It, and hang the mitten clip off a very small loop there, gaining back the length of the buried eye tail. What I'm going to try next time out to reclaim the length of the mitten clip is to take a loop of that LashIt, and prusik it over the UCR itself, in such a way that the prusik on the suspension line can come right up to the bury.

I know I know, visual learners need pictures. Plan is to get out this Saturday with the sons for a bit of winter hike and hang, so chances are good I'll have the camera along and maybe even time to do a little photo action.

Okay, I've been wondering (wandering?)...yes, the increase in minimum tree spacing is worrisome, but in practice, don't many, if not most, tarps require more spacing, anyway? I haven't used whoopies, yet, so I dunno...

I like the idea of piercing the tail of the UCR and using the prusik closer to it.
