What was the water situation at both parks? Availability of firewood? Critters? Trail difficulty compared to Shawnee (since that kicked my aging butt)?

I'm going to start a thread for May, if there isn't one already.
We passed many small streams that were flowing and set up camp near one there are however some very long ridge sections that are probably without much water for awhile.

The terrain is much more mild , hills are not as tall and switch backs are used . It was pretty easy. It would be a good group destination in my opinion.

Well, we got flooded out on the Sheltowee. We hiked most of the first day in the rain and after several knee deep, or higher, crossings we came to one of unknown depth that we guessed to be at least waist deep and called it quits.
We found out later that the Cumberland River was about 5' above flood stage so the trail would have been under water had we made farther. And, I just read on Facebook that the trail is officially closed south of the falls.

    Major disappointment.

Thinking about hitting the Allegheny Front Trail this weekend. Not 100% on it yet since it's some big mileage, reading up on it now, if anyone's interested.
