Need help finding places toovernight paddle in NC

I am moving to the Asheville area this summer and I'm trying to find ideas for overnight paddle hammock trips. Thanks in advance!

Big south fork in TN, flat water Fontana lake and staying in back Country camp sites in the GSMNP. This would be a start but not sure how far you want to drive from Asheville

The New River from Northwestern North Carolina up into Virginia. Take an old boat, the New River can be very shallow at times.

I'm not sure why any sane person would move from Minnesota to North Carolina (I'm from Mahtomedi), but good luck!

    Bic,

I kayak around NC, I mainly stick around the Tar River, and Sapony Creek. I steath camp at most of my overnights.

LOL because winter! But seriously, we're looking for a change, warmer weather but still all 4 seasons, love the outdoor rec opportunities in the mountains and you're within a days driving to the ocean. I feel like the only thing I'm sacrificing is the boating, but even then it appears that there are options I work at Century College right next to Mahtomedi

And thank you everyone for the suggestions so far. I will need to take a look at some of those!

You're clearly sacrificing in terms of flatwater overnight paddling opportunities as compared to MN, but OTOH you open yourself up to world-class, four season whitewater paddling, if you're so inclined.

Not experienced....There is not a ton of whitewater in MN, but I was going to try to hit some of the rivers this summer if I didn't leave, so I'm definitely open to trying...you might say even excited!

Ha! You're running from winter in exchange for 33 degrees and rain. Get some good rain gear.

Seriously. Asheville offers a lot. Hope you enjoy.

    I'm not familiar with areas---
French Broad River has parts that are calm and flat water. Not sure where you camp--I've not been there.
Wilson Creek, after a good rain, has some whitewater and falls to shoot. Not sure where to camp, since I've not been there either.
I'm sure you can somewhere to camp at either one.
