Many things can cause skipped stitches.

Needle size being to large, in light fabrics, so the thread does not have enough friction through the fabric during the up lift of the needle to create the loop to be picked up by the hook is one.

Needle not installed exactly with the hole perpendicular to the hook is another, the long continuous slot on the needle should be towards the thread entry side.
very basic timing: the needle eye should meet the hook point after about 1/16 inch up from bottom needle position, straight stitch and longest stitch selected. Timing is usually not off

What type of machine is this, make and model, does it have a rotating or oscillating hook?

Looks like the timing may be off. This video might help figure it out.

Singer 9960 is the machine. 2 months old. Not much use on it.

One of the benefits of thread injecting in my woodshop is I can blow out my wife's machine with my air compressor!! I noticed the other day there was a lot of lint in the bobbin tray, so I blew it out!!

First, I would adjust your tension, so you are only working with one variable at a time. You are top thread needs adjusting.
Also, what is the tension on your pressure foot? Is it too loose?

Once that is running well, what does it look like?

In addition to those factors already mentioned, a dull needle or improperly wound and/or poor fitting bobbin can be the culprit.

    I have this issue too.

I've cleaned. Adjusted top tension. Adjusted bobbin tension. Happens sporadically. Would love to hear if you find a fix. I had chalked it up to my machine (purchased for my kids years ago - a Singer Prelude).
