    Feb Winter Camping Trip

First Solo Trip with my new Gear. One thing I can say is that I love my DIY Hammock but it is heavy. 1.9z double = heavy!! That being said I am feeling like the sleeping pad is also weighing me down. Forgive the pun but Down seems to be a logical choice for insulation as it is light and affords some of the best insulation for the weight. I also feel like comfort will be greatly improved as I will not be fighting a pad that shifts under you as you flip and flop.

I have used a product called reflectix as a bubble pad/heat reflector sandwiched in between the wool army blanket as my insulation in this video and although it works I don't like it. I also have added a new piece of gear and that is the Hyke and Byke 0* bag. LOVE IT!!! Night time temps down to about 34 and slept very comfortably, but tormented by the wind. Should have put up the tarp after all.

Let me know your thoughts but this was a great little excursion.

Wasn't able to watch the vid. Where did you go? Maybe this is just me, but unless I need the tarp to block the wind for warmth, I do not like a tarp in high winds. It flaps so dang loud. I just duck down a little lower in the hammock and always try and find a good protected spot for the West winds. You should always expect them out here, especially in the spring.

Northern Colorado - Redfeather lakes area. yeah it is annoying but so was being buffeted by the gusts. Ahh I should just shut up and be happy I got to hang in February right!!

I've camped up the Poudre many of times, but Red feather is still on my list. Looks nice and you picked a good protected spot. I wonder when ice out will be?

Good Question. I would bet not till after mothers day. I have an uncle who has a cabin up on the Uncompagre Plateau and we can't drive into the cabin usually until after the 4th of july due to snow.
What spots up the poudre are favorites of yours?
