    Scraggly Tapers

Why do the tapered ends on the zing-it and amsteel in the how to videos look so much nicer than mine?

By the time I delicately select and gently pull four strands, the end looks like the head of a troll or a Fraggle from Fraggle Rock they just won't stay twisted! What am I doing wrong? Is anybody else having this problem? What should I be doing differently?

Your tapered ends should end up buried. Their appearance prior to that shouldn't be of any concern.

Yep. Bury that fraggle & be done. Frayed ends just make it easier to remove strands.

My hit rate is about 50/50. I've found no performance difference between the neat ones and the troll doll ones. None have ever pulled out so while I do try and keep them intact I don't lose any sleep over it if they're not.

Sounds very hard rock. Go with it.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

The reason I've found is that it has to do with making sure you're pulling strands out that orient in a different direction in the braid of the rope. If you work with braided rope enough you learn to get a feel for it which is why you see the youtube videos where it looks so tidy. Ultimately it will be buried in the end so you won't see it, but keep at it and you'll develop an eye for it over time.
