I currently use a dream hammock danger bird which I love, but I wanted to give a bridge hammock a try and this seemed like a cheap way to get into one. Im looking forward to my next overnighter so I can see how it works. Ive never been able to side sleep in a hammock and think I may enjoy it a lot.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Side sleeping is much improved. I think I spend more time on my side now than my back.

Great review! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I have really wrestled with switching to a bridge hammock for years. After many sleepless nights in a Hennessey (I’m a side-sleeper), I actually went back to sleeping on the ground (albeit with some awesome gear which I have really loved). But I just ran across this the other day, and with my rebate I’m really tempted. Your info has definitely helped.

Any idea the difference between the original and the new updated model?
    Thanks!

Thanks. I do not see any significant differences in the newer version. Looks like it is at least partially the line used in suspension for the hammock. Otherwise I cannot tell any difference in the descriptions.

I am a side sleeper, and sleep well in mine. Spent a night out the past week and was crashed in the hammock for 11 hours. And spent many more hours sitting sideways in the hammock watching the river flow by. It makes a really great recliner. Especially if you pull up a log for a foot rest.

Thank you so much. You have really given me some peace of mind. I read your update and it’s exactly what I needed to hear! Unfortunately it looks like the original model is no longer available at REI (I waited one day too long) so I may have to bite the bullet and spend a little extra on the updated model. Thanks again!

The new one has a 30d rainfly. The old one was 15d.

They've updated the anchor lines and improved the carabiner system.

I thought the 15d rainfly was just fine but this should be more resistant. Otherwise they are pretty much identical. Sad you missed the old one because it was a steal at that price. If you want to pick up a "named brand" bridge hammock this is the one to get. If you want to venture out into cottage ventors, the Warbonnet Ridge Runner is my current favorite.

Thanks! Yea, major bummer on missing the previous model since, after my rebate, it would have only cost me around $20! I will have to check into the Ridge Runner, but unfortunately I don’t get a Warbonnet rebate.

Well seven nights in the Rei bridge hammock. I'm liking it.

Stock setup with a Outdoor Vital sleeping pad.
The tarp as everyone has said is small. It keeps the rain out unless it pools in the laterals then dumps into the hammock. That's if its left unattended for a day in the rain. The hammock body it definately water proof and will hold about 30 gallons no problem.

It's unfortunate they discontinued it. I hope it lasts.

Did they discontinue the new one or just the original one?
