Custom UQ - narrower to save weight/bulk?

I starting wondering if it would be wise to design custom UQ to eliminate some "unused" quilt. Just another opportunity to save pack space and weight without sacrificing comfort. I guess a quilt narrower in general would work, but I maybe a custom cut would be even more efficient. Just thinking out loud.

Here is my 30° Hammockgear Phincubator, but it could apply to any UQ.

Left shoulder - OK as is

Right side - a TON of wasted quilt!

Left/right sides at foot end. I like the right side by my feet to have a little extra to go up and over my feet = warm feet. The left side seems to have a good deal of waste starting around my hip and below (see pic above as well)

You can either buy a wookie or try to make a wookie clone where the down is only under the asym lay. All the down where you need it and none where you don't.

I recently obtained a Warbonnet Yeti UQ. It seems to be a great size: 40" wide and 46" long. It's wide enough to give good coverage coming up around me, but not much extra. Its just the width needed to throw a knee out to either side on occasion.

For longer/full length quilts, the feel of extra width is almost always at the legs, as you mention in your post. You could simply end some of your down chambers on the unused side to eliminate excess, and just continue the shell fabric alone. Or, as mentioned above, you could go the route of a wooki clone: a non-structural hammock that mimics the hammock itself ontowhich you place your insulation only in the location of your lay.
