I think I'm going a different route. I use tree webbing and whoopie slings. I think I'm going to attach a soft shackle to the end of my whoopie sling and the use the shackle and webble to make a j-bend knot. That way my webbing and soft shackle are secure, but my whoopie sling is still free to adjust. No tension on the sling except for when the hammock is loaded.

I haven't used the MSH for a season or so, but of late I am thinking of going back to that setup. I used CF arrow shafts with no issue. Also used fiberglass walkway markers.
I like the idea of the aluminum straw. Of course Dutch Ti and bones of enemies are top runners.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

We have a Gander Mountain close to my house. Just got some carbon fiber arrow cut offs. drilled a small hole in the end of one and have a small continuous loop fed through the hole so I can attach it to my tree straps. It was free, light weight and I don't have to worry about losing them.
I like the carbon fiber arrow cutoffs, and the various outdoor places will typically give you a handful for free.
My favorite is always my .30-06 shell casings....so smooth and manly.

If the whoopie sling is hung correctly, the only thing that the toggle is doing is stopping the MSH from untying. Consequently anything should do the job. I just use any stick on the ground and have never had a problem. Free and no weight - win/win!

Just cut up quay I thought was a carbon arrow but turns out it was aluminum which is fine too. Also grabbed a couple 300RemUltraMag cases to try too.

I bought a few titanium climbing rings for both sides and just run my nylon strapping up and through, then a slip knot to lock them in place.
