xdiver, lol I laughed hard when I read your comment.

tlb, I actually found it at my local walmart. Was going to buy some digi camo nylon when I looked and behold the silnylon. So scooped up ten yards.

Wow! A tarp and a hammock as a first DIY project!

I've not been brave enough to try making a tarp...

Great job! Did you hose down the tarp material to make sure it's really silnylon? Better to find out now than on the trail.

Yeah, I jet blasted that material. Only a mist came through. Also made a bowl shape and poured some water in, no seepage.

Slept in the hammock and it did really well. I just had a lightwieght 40* bag, and a pad. Only got cold around 4 am when the temp was around 39*. Had to pee and adjusted everything before getting back in, then I was nice and toasty. Pad must have slipped out from under me.

MacEntyre, it really wasn't too bad. Mainly took a lot of time. Just take some time to plan it out ahead. Like, how are you going to attach your ridge-line and tie outs. What kind of material you going to use for the tie out supports. once you have everything decided and planned out, then start sewing. Nothing worse than having to tear out threads on a hem you've already sewn.

their was not a color listed on the bolt, but it is a dull grey color. The other was more of an olive drab. Sorry couldn't be more help, but their really wasn't much helpful information on the bolt label (other than the price). I mean what is "contains remnants of unknown fabric" really supposed to tell me about what the material is. Not even the remotest mention of synthetic fabric, much less nylon, polyester, rayon, acrylic, etc. That is the only draw back to buying fabric from walmart.
