Need help-bugnet/under protection/ net tent combo.

I am very confused right now. It all seemed easy in my head.

I have a 4 foot x 7 foot bathtub style floor with 4" sides. I also have a 10.6'x 56" bug net with just the ridge line sewn into a channel with tarred bank line going through it.

I want to sew the ends of the net together, but in a way that it closes the end like a winter tarp. I want to sew this "winter" bugnet directly to the bathtub floor. I can't figure out how far in to measure for the cut on the ends. I need some math help here.

I marked the center of the sides on both, I was going to start sewing from the center and work my way all the way around. I'm afraid the ends will be very wrinkled and wadded up mess.

I have line loc's at each corner of the floor and a small d ring in the top inside ends of the ridgeline. My thinking was to run shock cord through the d ring down to the line locs so I could adjust the distance of the floor to the bottom of the hammock while inside. I have a 6' zipper already sewn into one bottom edge of the netting centered. It will be a one side entry either as a net tent or bugnet.

I did setup my winter tarp and hang this inside. I have plenty of room under my tarp for this to work. It's pouring out so I can't set it up and pin it to get it right.

So I have a 127"x56" double layer rectangle of netting that has to sew onto a 48"x84" rectangle. I hope this makes sense. I'm tired.

If you don't want to cut a perfectly good net, then you can match the lengths by sewing a dart into the longer piece to shorten that side.

It sounds like you need to take in 8 inches on the short dimension and 3.6 feet on the long dimension.

I'd break up the 3.6 feet into 4 darts on each side.

I like to put darts in the middle of a run or near other interesting features.

I don't mind cutting the netting.

I wonder if I can mock something up in sketchup for proof of dimensions?

So, I came up short? It looks like I'll need to cut triangle end walls out of breathable rip stop. Then I have to figure out the strap access slots at the peak.

So Jellyfish or kitsapcowboy, what are your thoughts ? Should I just quit ? I really have no idea how to finish the hem around the perimeter of this.

This is wrong side out for stitching. I have 20 oz water bottles in the corners. I need to get some webbing on the bottom end of the zipper to fill that gap.

No, it's not. Some of us just don't know the answer.

Hope someone rolls in with some help for you.

You can shorten the narrow dimension of the camo floor with a dart, then sew up the gaps directly.

Another approach is to cut a patch of fabric with enough coverage to fill the gaps. If you have extra net material that would be ideal.

I have a ton of nylon ripstop untreated. I think I'll do that and put zippers on the ends too. Still not sure how to do the hems but I'll figure it out with hands on work.

In the mean time I found this net tent only part used very cheap.

Should be here by the end of the week. Planning a canoeing overnight where there are no trees. I'll carry poles with me in the canoe. I have to get out before all this water dries up like it did last year.
