Question AT thru hiker with a Hammock (YouTube)

I searched and didn't really find what I was looking for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction...

I am curious if any thru hikers used a hammock for most of the hike on the AT and documented it?

    Thank you,
    MoonBear

I know Dutch from Dutchwaregear.com hiked it with a hammock... Recently I was talking with my aunt who had just finished thru hiking the AT and she told me that by the end it was exclusively tent campers (at least in her bubble). I am also curious to hear others opinions on this as well. I would imagine it comes down to the ease of set up and break down. It's hard to beat a 1-2 person tent in that regard.

For some the trail is not as much about speed and efficiency so a hammock would not be an impairment. I like to think that I would hang along the way...

Lots of folks on Trail Journals have documented they thru hiked with a hammock.

I've searched as well. Thanks to the links for those that have done it.

I'm actually a little surprised that it hasn't become more common to use a hammock. It would be interesting to look into. Especially if there are many out there who switched from a hammock to a tent during their thru.

Theres a 2017 thru hiker named reddmage on youtube who just recently switched from a tent to a hammock, like maybe 2 weeks he's been hiking with a hammock and he started back I think in February. He said he loves it and is finally able to sleep good.

Dutch? What! I never knew that. Very interesting... I might see him in June. Maybe I'll get the chance to chit chat with him...

LOL. I'm just getting caught up on his hike and I just found out last night he received his hammock. He had a thru hiker with him for a little while that was a hanger, but no interview was provided. Hopefully Reddmage will provide his thoughts on the hammock after a few months in it...
