There is a fire burning on the Rim. I'm completely bummed, because I planned on an entire summer bike packing up there. Hopefully the monsoons help get it under control.

Fire Begins North of Payson
Incident Overview
The Highline Fire is burning northwest of Payson and Bonita Creek Estates. The fire was reported on Saturday afternoon and burned approximately 100 acres as of 7 p.m. today.

County enacts Stage 1 fire restrictions below the Mogollon Rim
The Coconino County Board of Supervisors enacted the Wildfire Defense Ordinance Stage 1 fire restrictions, for Coconino County, below the Mogollon Rim, during a special session today.
Restrictions go into effect immediately and will remain until fire danger conditions subside and the Board of Supervisors act.

New wildfire discovered above Mogollon Rim, Snake Ridge fire fully contained
Firefighters have found a recent lightning-caused wildfire on the Mogollon Rim, which is currently fulfilling its natural role and moving slowly across the landscape consuming dead and down wood, pine needles and forest fuels.

Firefighters continue to monitor Bear Fire in Bear Canyon
Fire personnel are managing a recent lightning-caused wildfire above Mogollon Rim, allowing it to fulfill its natural role and move across the landscape consuming dead and down wood, pine needles and forest fuels.
The Bear Fire is located ten miles southeast of Clints Well in Bear Canyon, a half mile from the edge of the Mogollon Rim. This wildfire is not a prescribed burn, but fire personnel will occasionally conduct burnout operations in specific areas to keep the fire from moving beyond certain boundaries and help direct where and how the fire moves through the landscape.

Closure order in effect for immediate area of the Snake Ridge Fire
A closure order is now in effect for the area of the lightning-caused Snake Ridge Fire, which fire personnel are managing above the Mogollon Rim.
The area, approximately nine miles north of Clints Well, Ariz. (north of West Clear Creek) and west of Lake Mary Road (FH 3), is closed to protect public safety.

Prescribed fire treatments to continue near Payson Feb. 1st - Feb. 4th
Tonto National Forest fire specialists will resume prescribed fire treatments in areas around Payson starting on Wednesday, February 1 through Saturday, February 4, 2017. Current weather conditions provide an opportunity to eliminate 78 acres of vegetative debris piles located 15 miles northeast of Payson in and around the community of Zane Grey. Fire specialists may also eliminate 100 acres of vegetative debris piles in the Tonto Creek Estates area during the same time frame. During the day, smoke will move northeast and will impact the communities of Zane Grey and Tonto Creek Fish Hatc

Crews dealing with Fulton Fire on Mogollon Rim
Firefighters continue applying preventive measures on the Mogollon Rim for the Fulton Fire that resulted from a lightning strike September 12, 2016.
Smoke is visible from State Route 260 east of Payson, Arizona. Eastbound State Route 260 was reduced to one lane about 25 miles east of Payson on September 13, 2016, by the Arizona Department of Transportation to provide fire crews with a safer working environment. Reservoir Fire Update; Smoke Expected along Mogollon Rim
The Reservoir Fire burning in grass and pine in the Blue Ridge Reservoir. The fire is approximately 138 acres and estimated to be 30 percent contained. Crews successfully burned out along fireline and will continue to hold and monitor fire. Blue Ridge Reservoir continues to be closed to the public.

Winds will push Pivot Fire smoke to the east
Burn operations will continue today on the Pivot Fire to protect pasture fencing and timber. A smoke plume may be visible throughout the district and beyond the Mogollon Rim.
Yesterday, black line and burn operations were successful. Crews established a buffer to prevent the fire from entering West Clear Creek Wilderness.

Large Prescribed Fire Aerial Ignition Planned for Whispering Pines Area
Tonto National Forest fire specialists are hopeful for favorable prescribed fire conditions that will provide an opportunity to treat 3,000 acres in the Whispering Pines area the week of February 23 – 25, 2015. Beginning Monday, February 23, 2015, fire personnel will hand-fire 200 acres along Forest Road 233. Residents and visitors to the area can expect to see and smell light to moderate amounts of smoke on Monday during the hand firing operation.
Looks like I am going to have to look for different summer camping this year.
